Competencies lie at the heart of human resource management, providing a basis for key HR functions such as selection and assessment, performance management, and development. In this course we will review the nature of competencies and explore how they link to the assessment of people at work.

We will explore the role of job analysis and competency mapping, as well as how each process can aid the development of personnel products, such as job descriptions and person specifications. A range of methods, techniques and approaches will be discussed and evaluated drawing on current research/critic.
