I think doing those pre-teach sessions massively helps your next lesson because every class is different so every classes miss-conceptions are different but by going over it with that small group, you get an idea of what the whole classes gap’s are going to be – so you can change that lesson before you do it with the whole class to almost plug the misconceptions – because if 3 children in your class don’t get it you can guarantee then at least 10 will too
If I was on PCGE again and I’d gotten wind of this strategy before I had an observation lesson – I’d take three children out and ask, what is going to confuse you about this? Because as prep for your lesson goes it couldn’t be any better! Sitting children down and letting them tell you which parts they don’t understand just enables you to be ready as a teacher and so from that point of view its invaluable
