Case Overview – Disseminated Candidosis

This was a case of Richard Wilson, a 54-year old man who attended the Emergency Department with signs and symptoms of urinary sepsis requiring ICU admission, and who deteriorated clinically after initial good response to broad-spectrum antibiotics. This case gave us an opportunity to consider the risk factors for an increasingly common invasive fungal disease – invasive candidosis.

Following an introduction to the diagnostic tests available, we have reviewed current guidance on the treatment of this often lethal condition.

Later in the course, we will meet this gentleman again. Perhaps there are further lessons to learn…
