Case 3: Introduction

Introduction to case study 3, invasive aspergilliosis.

Barbara Bell, a 62 year old woman is currently an inpatient on the Haematology ward. She was admitted after presenting with a 7 day history of worsening shortness of breath.

She is currently receiving a chemotherapy regime for acute myeloid leukaemia. This is her 3rd cycle. She was treated for neutropenic sepsis during her 1st chemotherapy cycle. Her treatment has been otherwise uncomplicated so far.

Her medication history includes Paracetamol, Amlodipine and antimicrobial prophylaxis.

Her clinical examination is relatively unremarkable. No focal abnormality was detected on chest auscultation.
