End of Course Summary

We hope you enjoyed this 3 week course on Antifungal Stewardship. It aimed to introduce the concept of antifungal resistance and the need for stewardship.

For some of you, this may have been your first introduction to fungal disease. For others, these scenarios are more familiar. Whichever group you find yourself in, the illustrative cases should have highlighted the challenges we face and ways to manage them.

Serious fungal infections are always a clinical challenge. High mortality and imperfect diagnostic tools are a concern for the medical teams looking after at-risk patients. Therefore, overuse of antifungals has not been in the focus of antimicrobial stewardship in the past. However, the emergence of antifungal resistance has to change our thinking and practise. Although they may be imperfect, there are tools and approaches that can be used in antifungal stewardship efficiently and safely.

This module is only the beginning.

Your next challenge is to put antifungal stewardship into practice!
