In this week you learned some basic laboratory techniques for bacterial identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing

We also discussed the more advanced techniques available. You learnt about the importance of obtaining accurate results from these techniques, as incorrect results can have major consequences on both clinical outcomes, if the wrong antibiotic is given, and on surveillance data, which is used to detect resistance.

Finally you heard from Dr Estee Torok about the main strategies on how to tackle antimicrobial resistance.
