Professor Paul Batalden was awarded the Deming Medal in 2010 by the American Society of Quality in recognition of his work on advancing the scholarship of quality improvement.

Professor Batalden chairs the Health Foundation’s Improvement Science Development Group, which is a network of international experts from disciplines within the field of improvement science. It contributes to the development of improvement science as an international discipline through the sharing of ideas and knowledge.

In this video Professor Batalden, Emeritus Professor at The Dartmouth Institute, Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, USA summarises the need to employ methods from outside the fields of microbiology or drug discovery in order to implement an effective antimicrobial stewardship programme.
