Skip to 0 minutes and 14 seconds So today we are going to start from how to use AI to promote the development of Sustainable Fisheries. Fishing is always a big part of our human culture. This is as a big things. This might be bigger than you thought. With the artificial intelligent, it actually can help us to do something that we are not able to do in the past. So today the first part we will talk we will spend some time to talk about how this tool, how this artificial intelligent, how does AI can help us do what we want. OK. So I will start from give you a short introduction give you some rough idea. This part is no AI, just tell you about management.

Skip to 1 minute and 9 seconds How do we do in the pass and this part we will talk about how to manage fisheries? Then I would talk start I will talk a little bit put a little bit AI in here, we will talk about how AI combines with sustainable fishiries that how does that possible. And this is lot of, projects out there. I will start from one. I think, personal thinking, that’s a very interesting project is from Europe is called SmartFish 2020. That’s an interesting project. We will spend some time to talk about this project. And I will also talk about automatic catch analysis system We will talk about impact and I’ll do a little bit result and conclusion.

Skip to 1 minute and 59 seconds I hope this will be an interesting topic for you guys. I think, my personal thinking, that is, well, it’s very important and interesting, OK? So, as I mentioned earlier, the Natural resources continued to depleted, so just like Alpha Sophia. One day, if we do it, whatever you want whenever we want and however we want, one day we will use up all the resources we have. So this is really an issue. Or this is the topic we really need to pay attention. So issues related to sustainable development are increasing valued by the countries. I mean not only, I don’t think that’s really the countries’ responsibility. I actually think that is personal responsibility. OK. However, we all know this is important, right?

Skip to 3 minutes and 0 seconds But however most commercial fishing vessels in the world still lack the quantity to control and assessment of harvested aquatic products. That is not like we don’t care it, It is just like we don’t have the tool in the past. The lawmaker, the regulator, the enforcement, they tried everything they can do. Of course, I’m saying not only the government part the fishing, the company and the fishermen. I believe everybody tried their best, but lack of technologies is like “yes, we want to do something good.” “But there’s no tool to help us do what need to be done.” And the fact is actually the number of endangered species has been increasing for a long time, and that I read it from somewhere.

Skip to 4 minutes and 1 second This is a very crazy day how the proportional fish that cannot be continually harvested had reach more than 60%. It’s not, it’s more like… More than 60% of fish when you do this kind of fishing you need to think about it. Is it the right season? And is this the right place? Is this the right size? It’s like a lot of things you need to be careful because again I have mentioned several times in this video already. We only have one earth. We only have one beautiful ocean. If it’s gone, it is gone. We need to keep it clean. We need to keep it clean. We need to keep it wonderful for our children, OK?

Skip to 4 minutes and 47 seconds So, are we going to stop? What we’re going to do? I mean, are we going to stop fishing? No, actually, more than one million people worldwide use fishing as their main source of protein. It’s a lot of people. I mean, we, fish probably not our main source of protein. we probably have a lot of choices. We have chicken, we have cows We have pork. We have all kind of source of protein. But for more than one million people worldwide fish as the main source of protein. we’re not gonna say, Oh OK, we’re going to keep our ocean clean, so it is 1,000,000 people Well, good luck. No, we’re not going to do that.

Skip to 5 minutes and 28 seconds What we’re going to do is we’re going to find a way to do what we want. What we really want is we want to have a sustainable development in ocean. But we still want to keep This one million people, at least this one million people Their food because that is, this is their life, right? So we need to find a balance or we wanna find a seesaw for this 2 issues can be like a balance. OK. So this is pretty much why we care. This is a very short introduction.

Introduction of Fisheries

Continuing on the introduction, Prof. Wu will first talk about the environmental impact. The natural resources are depleted. How serious this problem could be?

As the population of the earth continues to grow, so does the demand for food supplies. The impact of the global warming effect, global land resource depletion, all of these issues can affect sustainability.

Fish products are relatively easy to catch, can be farmed and are rich in protein, as an important source applies of food. In the fishery, most commercial fishing vessels lack the quantity control and assessment of harvested aquatic products. Prof. Wu explains the reason behind this problem is mainly lacking enough technology support to learn know-how. We will need to find a solution to get harmony with our environment in the end. So first, management is important. We will see the method in the next step.
