Skip to 0 minutes and 9 secondsWelcome back. Last time we examined the way in which the mother's emotional and cognitive mind influences the development of the infant's mind as a result of their impact on the parent-infant interaction, and thereby, the infant's attachment and the development of their internal working models. This week, we will go back in time to explore the way in which the mother's mind can influence the development of the foetus, and specifically, aspects of the foetus that will influence the development of the infant's mind. We start by looking at the concept of foetal programming and examining some of the early research focusing on maternal nutrition and its impact on foetal development.
Skip to 0 minutes and 49 secondsWe'll then go on to look at more recent research which has begun to examine the impact of aspects of the mother's emotional and cognitive mind on foetal development and on the mother's developing relationship with the unborn baby. We focus on those aspects of foetal development that will influence the later development of the baby's mind.
Welcome to Week 3

In this video, Jane introduces some of the key themes, and outlines the structure for the week.
