In the next few weeks, you will learn how to compare bacterial genomes using bioinformatics, explore their differences and similarities, and draw conclusions from this. This course is intended for learners who'd like to expand their knowledge on bacterial genomes. We will use a software called Artemis Comparison Tool, or ACT for short. ACT is based on Artemis, a tool that you've explored in our previous course. This time, we will take you further into the world of comparative genomics. This course is split into three weeks. In the first week, you will learn how comparative genomics can help you understand more about pathogens.

In the second week, you will compare two or more bacterial genomes and their annotation, explore their differences and similarities. We will also show you how to generate your own comparison file. In the third week, you will put your knowledge to the test. We will give you a short project, where you're going to compare to bacterial plasmids. And you will have the opportunity to share your results in a peer review process. By the end of this course, you will be able to use ACT on your computer to explore and compare bacterial genomes.
