Welcome to Week 1

This week’s welcome

We will start this week by telling you what the term Comparative Genomics means and why it is important to study bacterial genomes.

We will show you a tool called Artemis Comparison Tool (ACT). This tool has been developed at the Wellcome Sanger Institute for the comparison of bacterial genomes. It is based on Artemis, a genome browser that you might have studied in our earlier and pre-requisite course ‘Bacterial Genomes: Accessing and Analysing Microbial Genome Data’, open for referencing.

Later in the week we will show you how to download and install ACT on your computer, how to open your first ACT session and become familiar with the basic functions of ACT.

We hope you will enjoy this week’s activities and you will participate in discussions.
