Introduction to the team

TEAM LEADERS:

Andrew Millard is Associate Professor of Archaeology in the Department of Archaeology at Durham University. Andrew coordinated the scientific analysis for the Scottish Soldiers Project, conducted the isotope analysis and dating, and did some historical research on the site and in New England.

Chris Gerrard is Professor of Medieval and Later Archaeology in the Department of Archaeology at Durham University. He has published widely on medieval and post-medieval archaeology in the UK and abroad. Chris acted as academic team leader for the Scottish Soldiers project. His own research focused on the story of the Dunbar survivors in the UK and USA.

Julie Biddlecombe-Brown is a Curator, specializing in interpretation and temporary exhibitions. An archaeologist by background, she was the curatorial lead on the exhibition Bodies of Evidence: How science unearthed Durham’s dark secret.

Charlotte Roberts is Professor of Bioarchaeology in the Department of Archaeology at Durham University. She has a background in nursing and studies archaeological human remains – particularly from the perspective of health and well-being (palaeopathology). Her research focuses especially on health problems that are common today. She has written many books and articles on these subjects including on ethics and archaeology. Charlotte was responsible for the human remains part of the exhibition, and especially ethical considerations.
