I hope you’ve enjoyed exploring how you might support your learners in their transitions from using a block-based to a text-based language.

It’s OK to still feel like a beginner Python programmer – we all do at times. These feelings can help you understand how your learners are feeling, so you can give them the support that they need.

While you can read about the basics of Python, there is no real substitute for just sitting down and writing some code. This can be anything, from a series of small programs that you or your learners want to be able to write, to a huge program of your own invention that will accomplish a task that is useful to you.

If you want to really get to grips with coding in Python, then get out there and build something, big or small, with code!

No one is alone on their journey to becoming an accomplished Python programmer. There are hundreds of thousands of learners out there — some of them are absolute beginners and others are industry experts — but we are all learning, all of the time. There are numerous resources for learning to program, and ample forums and message boards where you can find answers to all your questions.

For those of you who are teachers, support and materials for teaching the topics covered in this course can be found in the Introduction to Python programming unit of the Teach Computing Curriculum.

The Teach Computing Curriculum contains everything you need to teach computing at key stages 1 to 4, including lesson plans, slides, worksheets, homework and assessment.

All of the content is completely free to access, and has been created by subject experts, based on the latest pedagogical research and teacher feedback. It provides an innovative progression framework where computing content (concepts, knowledge, skills, and objectives) have been organised into interconnected networks called learning graphs.
