Well done!

You’ve reached the end of week two. Through a combination of reflection, self-awareness, discussion and your researcher skills you have explored and discovered a range of career options available to you outside of higher education institutions. You’ve engaged with a number of strategies which can help you identify potential careers that best align with your preferences.

Some of you may have a good idea of exactly what you would like your next steps to be or some of you may have narrowed it down to a more focused range of options. For others, you still may feel open to wide range of things or still feel uncertain about what to choose – that’s ok. We all learn and progress at different speeds. As we enter the second half of the course, think about what you need to do to help you confidently take the next step in your career – and use the support and experience of your network to help you.

To conclude this week, revisit your learning diary to record and assess your progression so far. You’ve enhanced your self-awareness, learned about decision-making, and explored career options outside of higher education. You can capture some of your strategies for identifying suitable opportunities as well as developing a target list of career areas to focus on.

In week three, you will consider how to meet the challenges of progressing in an academic career as well as other professional roles in higher education.
