Summary of Week 2

We have now reached the end of Week 2.

Throughout this week we have explored the healthcare needs of children with developmental disabilities. We hope that you now have a better understanding of effective communication techniques and the challenges to accessing services, along with potential solutions. We encourage you to reflect upon all that you have learnt and consider how you can apply this knowledge to your own personal setting. Please do discuss your thoughts with your fellow learners, as we learn best from interaction with others.

Next week we will look beyond the healthcare needs of children with developmental disabilities and begin to consider the needs of parents and carers. We will finish the course by exploring the broader needs of children, such as education and social inclusion, and consider how healthcare professionals can help children and their families realise these fundamental human rights. We will discuss how to engage with a network of other service providers in your setting.

As with last week, we will be pulling together common points and key themes from learner discussions, and a summary document will be made available under the ‘Downloads’ section at the bottom of this page. If there are topics from Week 2 that you do not feel confident on, please do return to the previous steps and run through the material once more. If you haven’t already done so, you may find it helpful to read the resources in the ‘See Also’ sections.
