You should now have a good understanding of how you can help children with developmental disabilities and their families realise a number of fundamental rights, having looked at various examples such as accessing education, livelihoods, and community participation. Regarding the parent support programme in Brazil, has given us a grounded, real-world example from which to learn.

We hope that you now feel confident to apply what you've learned to your own setting. As in Week 1 and 2, we will shortly post a summary of your discussions throughout the week. This will be available in the 'Download' section at the bottom of this page.

Summary of Week 3

Congratulations, we have reached the end of Week 3 and the course.

Throughout this week, we have expanded our horizons and considered the broader needs and fundamental rights of children with developmental disabilities and their families, including access to education, stigma reduction and social inclusion. Healthcare professionals can begin to provide holistic care that addresses a child’s overall wellbeing and quality of life, by understanding collaborative frameworks to address these needs and recognise their linkage to a child’s health.

As ever, we welcome your final thoughts and discussions on the week.

  • What has been the key take away messages for you?
  • How might you apply what you have learned in this week going forwards?

We will shortly post a summary document of your discussion points throughout this week. As we have now reached the end of the course, please do go back and reflect on steps that you aren’t as confident on. We recommend looking back at the course as a whole and analysing the connections between activities and your learning. Hopefully you can see that your learning and confidence has steadily grown over the past few weeks and we hope this has increased your confidence.
