SOCA1010.2: Class, Consumption and Youth: Inequality and Ideology in Everyday Life
Learn about key view points on societies.
This course addresses some of the material and symbolic ways in which distinctions are formed within societies, and identifies key perspectives through which they can be understood. We will begin by discussing class and inequality, moving through classic and contemporary theories of class and considering what they mean for contemporary Australian society. We will then address recent research on consumption and lifestyles. Finally, we will focus on youth transitions and cultures, a key area in which concepts of class, inequalities, lifestyles and consumption have been applied.
