Week 3: Climate Justice

Text of video introduction to week 3: Climate Justice

Our topic this week is the central theme of our course.

It is a special type of justice that tries to balance the needs of social and ecological systems, on the one hand, and their individual members, on the other hand, so that they can benefit from each other. This balancing act is applicable at various levels: the lifestyles of individuals, social and ecological systems, and the planet as a whole.

It is by keeping this dynamic balance that we hope to preserve and pass on the benefits of nature’s resources to the next generations and the vulnerable populations as a common heritage of humankind.

We shall again look at the practices of the peoples from Africa, Asia, the Arab world, and Latin America for lessons about climate justice and how these lessons can address the problems posed by climate change.
