Last week we looked at factors that affect the learning environment, the role of interprofessional education, planning learning opportunities and the ever-growing need to balance service work with education effectively in clinical settings. Now that you are familiar with the general principles of establishing and maintaining a supportive learning environment in your workplace, this week we are going to focus specifically on the learner or the trainee. We will be looking at how to identify the learning needs of your trainees or any learner, and once you've done that, how you can support them to develop a good personal development plan to meet those needs. As learners grow in experience, it is really important for them to take responsibility for their own learning.
