On this course, you’ll discover the best communication strategies for effective workplace collaboration, and reflect on your own personal communication style.

You’ll learn the importance of matching your communication style with your work and project goals and learn how to manage and control challenging conversations.

Syllabus

  • Week 1

    Know yourself

    • Welcome

      Before you get started, take some time to meet Adeseye Lawal-Solarin, who will guide you through the course. You'll also have the opportunity to meet your fellow learners and plan your learning journey.

    • Personal style

      In this activity, you will explore your preferred methods and style of communication. You will be provided with various tools to help you to further understand and develop how you personally communicate.

    • Communication platforms

      You are now going to explore different communication platforms and how your communication style will vary depending on this. You will also look at the importance of understanding your audience.

    • Your approach to communication

      Now it’s time to bring together your learnings in order to address your areas of aptitude and aspects that can be improved. You’ll learn to identify your communication goals and how to work these to your advantage.

    • Summary

      You’ve reached the end of the first week of Communicating and Interpersonal Skills at Work. In this activity, we’ll sum up what you’ve learned, and look forward to Week 2.

  • Week 2

    Be yourself when communicating in the workplace

    • Welcome to Week 2

      During Week 2, you will learn how to apply your communications style in the workplace and how to engage in challenging conversations with positive outcomes. You will also reflect on what you’ve learned throughout the course.

    • Communicating at work

      In this activity, you will learn how to apply your communication style in a working environment. You’ll look at common workplace situations and consider the best way to approach them and what challenges you might expect.

    • Managing challenging conversations

      You will now learn how to engage in challenging conversations in the workplace with positive outcomes. You’ll hear advice from professionals and you will also receive tips on how to best navigate these conversations.

    • Demonstrating your communication skills

      Now it’s time to bring together what you’ve learned about communications. You will reflect on your personal style and techniques, and demonstrate those skills by putting together a communications development plan.

    • Summary

      You’ve reached the end of the second week of Communicating Well at Work. In this activity, You’ll see a summary of what you’ve learned and you’ll complete an end of course test.
