Review of the course
In the final week of this course you have explored the concept of coping capacities and how this can only be translated into actual capabilities in the right circumstances.
You have seen how this can be described by the circle of capacities and have discussed situations where a community’s capacities were both acknowledged and ignored. You have also discussed the coping strategies of indigenous peoples and seen how Western perspectives can overlook these.
You then examined community resilience and explored different frameworks and initiatives to help understand and build community resilience.
After that you explored community resilience strategies at a national level and asked whether these reflected the same needs in high income countries as they do in low- and middle-income countries. You then assessed some of the realities and challenges of attempting to build more resilient communities.
Finally you were given the opportunity to produce your own sketch of how to build resilience within your own community of choice, receive feedback and give feedback on the work of your fellow learners.
Time to reflect
Now that you have come to the end of the second week, it is again useful to reflect on what you have learned.
What was good or useful this week in expanding your understanding of community resilience?
What questions arose for you?
