Welcome to the Course!

Hello, and welcome to Creative Problem Solving! Thank you for joining this course. We hope you will enjoy the next four weeks with us, learning and practicing creative problem-solving. Before we begin our creative journey, let’s make you understand more about our course.

Why are we here?

This course is all about creativity. It aims to help you think in a different way. It is designed by the National Chiao Tung University to help people solve problems in their work or private life. In the course, we start by understanding what creativity is and then move on to some techniques that help to unleash creativity.

How does the course work?

Each week, we will prepare some interesting assignments, short articles, and exercises to trigger your creativity.

In week 1, we’ll concentrate on the meaning of creativity, which also includes breaking up the myths about it. We’ll also discuss the relationship between innovation and creativity.

In week 2, we’ll introduce the sources of creativity, ranging from the individual to environmental factors, and Rhodes’ 4 P’s creativity model. We expect to discuss together some factors that inspire one to be creative, and how these factors might affect you as an individual.

In week 3, we focus on Processes, the third P in the 4 Ps model to help introduce you to creative problem-solving techniques and decision making processes. You will also learn to use some practical tools such as mind mapping. We’ll help you build up a way to think creatively and efficiently.

For the final week, we will bring in several more useful creative problem-solving tools, such as brainstorming, brainwriting, the six thinking hats, and design thinking.
