A General Introduction to Child and Adolescent Mental Wellbeing

This module has been designed to to develop student’s specialist knowledge on child and adolescent mental health focusing on an understanding of how significant the psyche development is on mental health. The module will explore how the very early years can have an effect on child and adolescence mental well being, this can help the you to understand possible concepts and issues including moral issues, risk and resilience.

It relates to other modules on your course including children mental health conditions and Family, Societal and Cultural Influences on Children’s Mental Well being and furthermore, has been designed to support you to have the opportunity to explore more specific aspects of human development (including language and cognitive development) and it will give the student the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of more complex circumstances which affect the mental health of children.

Importantly, the curriculum has been designed to support the holistic learning of the latest academic theory and practice delivered using cutting-edge pedagogues and teaching methods.

By the end of the course, you‘ll be able to...

  • Apply and integrate knowledge on certain children’s typical psychological development appraising the evidence base
  • Assess developmental theories and their understanding of how developmental processes may affect mental well-being
  • evaluate and synthesize the evidence for biological and social influences on individuality.
  • Evaluate the evidence which explores children’s mental wellbeing
  • Debate and critically appraise on the role of nature and nurture on human development.

Who is the course for?

This course is for students enrolled on Anglia Ruskin University’s MSc Child and Adolescent Mental Wellbeing programme

Who will you learn with?

I hold a BSc (Hons) in Public Health and a MSc in Child & Adolescent Mental Wellbeing. I have over 20 years experience working in Social Care Services and NHS and also coach secondary school children.

I am a registered Mental Health Nurse and qualified therapist by trade, and have a degree in community practice, an MA in Psychoanalysis and Teaching and learning and successfully completed my PhD.

I am an Online Content Technician for Anglia Ruskin University. I work collaboratively with academics in the creation and application of online content on our distance learning programmes.
