Skip to 0 minutes and 14 seconds Hi everyone and welcome to our final week together. This week we will focus on images and visual content. My colleague Siobhan will analyse a video developed by the French contemporary artist Zoulikha Bouabdellah while Caroline and Ian will discuss two maps. One which represents the Habsburg Empire one hundred years ago and the other which is five hundred years old and was designed by a group of indigenous people of Mexico called the Quauhquechollan. Like previous weeks, in addition to the videos you will have access to several texts expanding on ideas introduced by the videos.

Skip to 1 minute and 0 seconds Discussion opportunities will also be available as well as plenty of quizzes to test your knowledge. We live in an intensely visual world and are surrounded by images every day. Despite this, it is not always easy to grasp them and understand their messages. What are the ideas behind them? What kind of impact do they trigger? These and many more questions will be explored this week. Our four-week journey together is about to come to an end. We hope you enjoyed our selection of topics and learnt new things about countries and cultures all over the world.

Skip to 1 minute and 37 seconds We also hope that you have gained an understanding of how language and objects can reveal real insights into nations which would otherwise remain hidden. This is a useful transferable skill to have in life. Indeed, analysing language and objects provides a deeper understanding of nations and their people. We believe that what people say and do is a great source of information which helps reveal how people think and untangle their ideas, beliefs and assumptions. Moreover, studying other countries and their cultures expands horizons and offers an understanding of how some societies and people have different approaches to our own. Ultimately, this can give us a greater awareness of who we are.

Skip to 2 minutes and 18 seconds So on this note about the importance of both language and object-analysis, I would like to thank you for having taken part in this course. I hope it has been a great experience for you. See you all on the next cultural adventure!
