Welcome to week 2

This week we will talk about how Europeans remember their past and construct their heritage.

First, we will give an overview of the evolution of the way in which history is made and diffused. You will learn about the key milestones of the institutionalization of history and heritage and the progressive opening towards alternative histories.

Interviews with experts will give insights on how we can rethink our relation to the past and take into account diverse memories. We will introduce concepts such as ‘contested heritage’, ‘transnational heritage’, and ‘cosmopolitanism’.

This week, you will also get the opportunity to write a peer-reviewed assignment and apply the concepts we have introduced so far to shed light on the ongoing discussions regarding the international cultural relations of Europe with the rest of the world.
