Recapping our exploration of privacy
This week we explored privacy from a few perspectives.
- We examined the risks of disclosing information and the right to be forgotten.
- We explored digital footprints, privacy settings and private browsing.
- We finished by looking at the problems faced in providing usable privacy, in the form of privacy policies or tools to help us control the information we share.
At the moment, most of these policies and tools are hard to use, but we have seen some research underway to improve the usability of tools based on a better understanding of how users relate to the online world.
As users, if we have a better understanding of the value of our private data, we are in a better position to make a personal choice about how much of our data we are happy to share, and how to protect the data we wish to keep private.
