Summary of week 1

Congratulations. You have concluded the first week of the digital accessibility course.

In this first week, we have:

  • looked at disability and the concepts of usability and accessibility;
  • identified various ways in which content can be represented (symbols for text; text equivalents for images; captions and audio descriptions for videos);
  • identified situations in the lives of typical users in which they depend on accessible design;
  • and seen that accessible design has benefits beyond people with disabilities, and may even benefit you now or sometime later.

In the coming week, we will take a close look at how people with disabilities use their computers at work, what barriers they encounter, and what technologies they use to overcome the barriers.
