What is a personal profile?

This gives an employer a clearer picture of you, in addition to the picture, the headline-grabbing ‘hook’, educational background and work experience. You might work for a company for many, many years and they want to know that they’re getting the right person for this job. Read this accountancy job description and then the two Linkedin profiles. Both profiles are for the same person with the exact same experience but one is much stronger than the other. As you read, think about what the main differences are and which one stands out and why.

LinkedIn Profile 1

Alt text

This is a good profile which contains a profile picture, a headline, a summary of the key skills and experience, and detailed description with bullet points of every job. This is a key feature as it gives an idea of what your competences are, what you are experienced in provides a lot more information compared to just the job title in the second one.

LinkedIn Profile 2

Alt text

This is a weak profile. The Skills and Endorsements section of the second profile is relatively empty. Even if you don’t have that many endorsements, you should include as many skills as you can. This includes not only your professional knowledge, but also any transferable and soft skills you possess. When applying for a particular job, you need to make sure your CV/profile matches the requirements listed in the job description. In order to do that, use keywords mentioned in the job description and try to match your CV with it.

Use the comments area to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each profile.
