Adding technology to your CV
Two options when adding technology to your CV are: to build the CV components up in a personal webpage or to use an existing online platform.
Using this method means that you have to consider what you add and where you add it. Here’s a suggested guide:
1 If you intend to use a video personal profile this should be one of the first things to be seen as often employers will look to this in the first instance before they probe more deeply into your CV.
2 If you intend to use an infographic then, again, this needs to be clearly visible to attract a potential employer to your CV itself. The same would be the case with an interactive CV, which would be an addition to your CV, but not a replacement for it as, if you do secure an interview, the panel would want to see a printed version of your CV.
3 Twitter and other social media links can be added at the end of the CV.
4 QR code can be used in a number of ways, but it tends to work very well as an eye-catching way of drawing you (and your creativity) to the attention of an employer, so why not add a QR code link to your CV via a E-Business card, which is another way of advertising your skills to potential employers? An e-Business card is very similar to a conventional card of this type, but it can be sent electronically, where conventional business cards have to be posted or left in person. There are companies who will do this free of charge. Two such links are provided for you at the bottom of the page.
Build your CV on a platform such as StepStone, LinkedIn or Broadbean. Please note the countries covered before you proceed to build your CV.
This is by far the easier of the two options. In each of these cases, it’s the platform that does the hard work for you; all you have to do is to upload the different elements of technology you want to add; the system itself will guide you through this process.
When posting material online there are always advantages and disadvantages. You want to advertise your skills to potential employers, but, equally, you don’t want any unwanted attention. An electronic CV has some big advantages over conventional ones as there is no need to include sensitive information on it such as your home address and telephone or mobile number. This is because all that is necessary, in the initial stages, is an electronic address-your email. following this when you are secure that you have established contact with a bona fide employer, then you could release further contact information.
