Skip to 0 minutes and 1 secondIn this video, we will talk about how digital is making work more flexible, both in how work is organised as well as where it's done. First let's look at how our work is organised more flexibly. Over the last 50 years, many people had jobs with job descriptions that stayed pretty much the same over time. But today this is changing. Companies also have to adapt to digital and so the work that they need to do is evolving fast as well. That's why today people change their roles more regularly. Generally, work is broken down more into projects and often people will be hired specifically for these projects because of their relevant skills.

Skip to 0 minutes and 39 secondsThis is already happening in translation, web and software development, therapy, and media design. And who knows what it will expand to in the future. There are already a lot of job platforms today that connect employers to workers for project-based work. And 79% of business leaders think that it will be the main way of working in the future. People call this the gig economy. If being your own boss sounds exciting to you, this could be a great opportunity for you. One advantage is that your job stays interesting because you work on many different projects with different companies. Your working hours could be more flexible. So you could either work more and increase your income, or work part-time instead.

Skip to 1 minute and 21 secondsThis way, some people can pick up work again who otherwise would not be able to. For example, working parents. On the other hand, you might find that working for yourself is not as stable as a permanent contract. And it usually doesn't come with the same social security as many permanent jobs. If you are interested in this way of working, you'll need business skills to be able to market yourself online and find your next project. Finally, let's see where work will be done in the future. Work used to be a place you go, but increasingly, is becoming a thing you do.

Skip to 1 minute and 53 secondsNow you can be productive anywhere, anytime, and the old way of working from the same office for eight hours every day is becoming less popular. Now you might work from home or from many different locations. You could even become a digital nomad, travelling around and working on the go from beach huts or mountaintops - as long as there's good Wi-Fi, of course. Or maybe your home is in the countryside but you've had a business idea for ages and thought it could only work in the city? Digital technologies might allow you to run your business from anywhere.

Skip to 2 minutes and 25 secondsSo whatever your work situation is like at the moment, the changing nature of work means that there are some amazing opportunities in store for you. And it's getting easier to adapt the way you work to suit your lifestyle.

Working more flexibly with digital

Digital solutions are also helping us to work more flexibly as they change the way our work is organised, as well as where it can be done.

In this video, we will take a closer look at why work is organised more and more around projects rather than a fixed job description, and at the opportunities that remote working can bring.
