I'll be joined by Katy Chedzey in each week of the course, who is a former senior leader and as a Curriculum Design and Assessment Manager at the Chartered College of Teaching. We will be joined throughout the course by a number of experts teachers, school leaders and academics, with each sharing their insights and experiences. There will also be a group of Chartered College of Teaching staff and members joining in discussions and sharing our thoughts in the comments throughout the course.

This course aims to enable all of these things as we explore how school leaders can design and implement an effective technology strategy. To support you in developing your technology strategy, each week of the course will include a range of different content types, resources, and activities including videos, advice summaries, case studies, quizzes and reflection and discussion tasks.

In future weeks of the course we will explore the technical and security considerations that accompany an effective strategy. We will consider the workload implications of technology use and will take some time to reflect on how a professional learning culture can be established and sustained, that can support effective and efficient uses of education technology. We're really looking forward to learning together with you.

At the end of the course, we'll be sharing a variety of ways in which you can choose to continue your learning with the community of teachers, leaders and educators that will develop here over the coming month.

Welcome to the course

Welcome to the ‘Leadership of Education Technology in Schools’ course with the Chartered College of Teaching.

On this course, you will explore case studies and guidance from school leaders on how an effective strategy for education technologies can be designed, communicated, and implemented.

By the end of the four weeks, you will have a clear sense of the role technology will play in your school and you’ll have engaged in some of the thinking around the core aspects of your strategy. You might be in the process of reviewing an existing strategy, forming a new one or writing your first one. Each of the weeks will cover the various aspects to be considered.

What’s coming up?

In Week 1, you’ll consider the purpose and opportunities for the use of education technologies in your school. You’ll learn about effective strategy approaches from a variety of school settings.

In Week 2, you’ll learn how to establish the conditions for effective implementation of education technologies, reflecting on device use as well as the possible technical and security considerations for your setting.

In Week 3, you’ll engage with the research evidence about professional learning cultures in schools and how a variety of CPD approaches can support effective use of education technologies.

In Week 4, you’ll engage with the wider applications and implications of an education technologies strategy and you’ll have the opportunity to share your work with other course participants.

Who will you learn with?

Hannah Tyreman, Head of Online Learning and Community at the Chartered College of Teaching will be your lead educator for the course. Each week, she’ll be joined by a number of education leaders and teachers sharing what they’ve learned about education strategy design and implementation.

Katy Chedzey, Curriculum Design and Assessment Manager at the Chartered College of Teaching will be an educator for the course through video content and course discussions.

Cat Scutt, Director of Education and Research at the Chartered College of Teaching will be an educator for the course through course discussions.

You’ll also be joined on the course by a range of Chartered College of Teaching members who will be responding to your comments in discussions.
