Analysing the effectiveness of different types of emergency response

Now find your own examples of effective and ineffective responses.

Investigate one or more emergencies (of any type) that you are familiar with. They could be from your own locality or examples from your personal experience.

Read chapter three of the ‘Emergency Response and Recovery Non-statutory guidance accompanying the Civil Contingencies Act’ to provide you with an example of the arrangement of roles and responsibilities produced for both England and Wales.

Your task

With the help of the guidance provided identify the key elements of the emergency planning and preparedness structure – who was responsible for preparing the response and how should they have planned to deliver it?

Building on the earlier work, discuss with your fellow learners whether you think the planning led to responses that were good or bad and what the consequences were (include relevant links in your discussion – try to link to at least one academic journal).
