It has been another busy week learning to read early modern documents!
As such, it is worth pausing to reflect on what you have covered:
- You can now read early modern numerals.
- You have an appreciation for early modern monetary systems.
- You are aware of the range of letter shapes and how they were deployed.
- You have discovered two archaic letter shapes – the thorn and yogh – and their usage.
In addition to your palaeography skills, your knowledge of early modern Scottish society has deepened considerably:
- You have looked at the survival of the kirk session records.
- You have acquired an understanding of their language, structure, nature and contents.
- You have seen the Perth kirk session in action.
These are huge steps forward – well done!
