Hello!

My name is Bo Normark, your educator during this first week of the course. Before we dig into the content, let me introduce myself shortly.

I’m a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA), a member of the Research Board of the Swedish Energy Agency and Board member of the Swedish National Grid Company. I work as a Thematic Leader for Smart Grids and Energy Storage in the EU initiative InnoEnergy and I’m a Senior Policy Advisor at the Renewable Energy Institute of Japan.

I’ve been working for more than 35 years at ABB in development, design, project management and global management of the Power Systems business, including Smartgrid Technologies such as FACTS and HVDC. During my time at ABB, I was also responsible for strategy and business development, studying how smart electrical grids could be an enabler for building a more efficient and clean energy system.

What you’re going to discover this week

During this first week of the course, I will be introducing you to the field of energy storage. As you will find out soon, this is a very critical topic affecting several businesses. Fossil fuels are depleting, CO2 emissions are growing, and our planet is suffering as a result. Energy storage and batteries could revolutionise the energy sector.

Welcome and enjoy the course!
