It can be transformed into different forms, but it's always conserved. This is the first law of thermodynamics. I will also explain the zeroth law of thermodynamics, which is about thermal equilibrium and leads to temperature as a measure of thermal energy. We already use temperature to compare the energy of bodies by talking about something being hotter or colder than something else, so we'll look at what this really means.
