Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a lifelong developmental condition which affects the way an individual relates to their environment and how they interact with other people. More specifically, individuals with Autism have restricted communication and social interaction; and repetitive patterns of behaviour, interests or activities.

The aim of the Autism Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) is to broaden participant understanding of Autism, by emphasising the importance of community knowledge and connectedness.

Participants in the MOOC are likely to have varying levels of experience and knowledge about Autism. Participants backgrounds may range from those who have just learnt about their child’s diagnosis, to family members and practitioners who have been affiliated or working in the Autism community for a number of years. It is therefore important to remember and be sensitive to the varying stages participants are experiencing as they journey through the MOOC.

Feel free to share your experiences (or lack of) with autism in the comments. Remember we are all here to learn together, and people will share perspectives from around the world.
