An Intermediate Guide
Congratulations on reaching the end Week 5! We hope you have enjoyed the course and you feel better prepared to write an academic essay.
This course is the first part of the Writing in English for University Study program, which will enable you to develop the academic English skills required for writing university essays and projects.
Now that you have come to the end of the ‘Beginner’s Guide’, you may like to improve your academic English skills further, by starting the second course in our Program, An Intermediate Guide to Writing in English for University Study.
Over five weeks, you will build on your ability to research, write and reference essays and extended writing projects. You’ll get an introduction to research tools, writing critically and referencing, as well as learning more about the fundamentals like essay structure, proofreading and avoiding plagiarism. Find out more on the course description page.
The final part of the Writing in English for University Study program offered by the University of Reading is an assessment, for which a fee is payable, which will enable you to revise, practise and then test the knowledge and skills you have gained in the Writing in English for University program. You will submit an essay (of 500 - 600 words excluding a list of references) on a topic that you will have read about and discussed with other learners during the intermediate level course. It will be marked by the University of Reading’s International Study and Language Institute. They will give you personal feedback to help ensure you can further develop your academic English for study success.
In the next Step, we outline some more ways you can continue your learning journey.
