Skip to 0 minutes and 4 secondsWell based on my own experience and maybe some of the things that I lack, perhaps, or don't have fully developed yet, empathy for the student needs to be there and awareness of the student’s experience, background, where they're coming from, when they're making mistakes, or when they're simply saying things, why they're saying them. But also just simply empathy about the learning process and how hard it might be at times, even if it doesn't seem so from the side, from the point of view of a competent teacher. I don't have a job lined up. My plan was to go back to Italy, because I was living in Italy last year, and I wanted to go back as a teacher this time.

Skip to 0 minutes and 53 secondsBut since I started this course, I've realised that actually I might change my plan because I am getting so much from teaching our group of adults who want to learn English. For example, we have a woman from Syria, we have some people from China, and I'm getting so much out of that, and it's so rewarding that I would love to go somewhere, maybe with an organisation, and teach English to people who can't afford to have private lessons. And also maybe the other thing is language and methodology awareness. It needs to be there. I've become convinced, it's not something - you know, teaching and learning effectively is not something that just happens magically, I don't quite believe that.

Skip to 1 minute and 36 secondsSo the awareness has got to come from continuous training, I would say. So a teacher has to be willing to train and retrain and pursue further development, which is something I've been trying to do. I'd like to work in Europe, do some travelling, then, eventually, maybe go back to Asia in a couple years. But I really want to live in Europe. I have my heart set here, so it's gonna happen.
