Watch: A window in time : interview with a fossil site manager - Pippa. 5 million years ago - West Coast fossil park

In this interview with Pippa Haarhoff, manager of the West Coast Fossil Park, you can see one of the Africa’s richest fossil sites of its age. The fossils found here date to 5-7 million years ago – and there are fossils from nearly 300 different kinds of animals (vertebrates and invertebrates).

The fossils reveal a totally different habitat from what we see these days, and Pippa discusses with me the possible causes for this apparent environmental change. We also talk about how this fossil site was discovered and the importance of conservation, as well as the involvement of local people.

Do you know of any projects like the West Coast Fossil Park, which plays multiple roles i.e., increasing knowledge about the past while also helping to improve the lives of people living today? Please describe them briefly or post links below.
