Experiencing volcanic eruptions
Volcanic eruptions occur regularly on the Earth’s surface, several eruptions will be happening right now as you read this.
They are a common activity, and range from the ones we discussed in the introduction of this course to eruptions that can blanket entire continents.
Recent volcanic eruptions
The Global Volcanism Program Weekly volcano report shows which volcanoes are erupting in the world.
You can also take a look at the Eruptions, Earthquakes, and Emissions map developed by the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.
Creating our own volcano map
We are going to start this activity by creating our own volcano map. What we’d like you to do is:

Find a volcano that’s either closest to where you live or that interests you.

Using the instructions below add this volcano to our map.
Instructions

Go to the top left corner of the map and click on the tab marked Additions.

Choose Add Marker – Simple.

Type your first name in the Entry Name field.

Type the location of the volcano or use the click on map location feature.

Add any information or the reason why you chose this volcano in the Description field

Hit Submit.
