What to expect when you are seen in a falls clinic

A falls clinic can be in a variety of settings. It may be in the community, in a hospital or within a specialist centre.

Different clinics will be set up in a variety of ways, such that in some clinics it may be a specialist nurse, physiotherapist or an occupational therapist who evaluates you first. In other clinics it may be specialist physician and in some settings you may see more than one member of the specialist falls team.

In the next two videos we will see what happens in one falls clinic. Firstly we will learn more about some general tests which may be carried out and then we will learn more about some of the specialist tests.

Below in the ‘See also’ section is a link to a flow chart of what may be involved in a typical clinic. This flow chart was designed by British and American specialists and is used by professionals, but you may find it useful to see what they recommend.
