Skip to 0 minutes and 5 seconds I think that I quite strongly trust the food that I buy is safe to eat. I trust that the nutritional information and ingredients are label correctly. I think I trust a little less some of the claims that are made on food packaging, especially relating to claims like 100% natural, superfood, no added sugar, and probiotics. It’s quite hard to keep track if these claims as scientifically substantiated or they’re just marketing gimmicks, so I tend to ignore them. When buying food, what matters most to me is the freshness of the produce.

Skip to 0 minutes and 38 seconds This is in part to ensure I know that what I’m eating isn’t going to make me feel unwell, and also partly to make sure my meals are going to be as high quality as possible. I usually check this through inspecting the food I’m about to purchase, but also through checking things such as best before dates. Checking the best before date also helps in the planning of the longevity of my food before it spoils, and as a student, this becomes particularly important economically. I don’t think I have many concerns about the food systems. Sometimes you hear things in news, which might be a bit worrying.

Skip to 1 minute and 14 seconds But just the fact that they’re being reported and that stuff is being looked into, and there is a government body that’s going to make sure things are safe. I’ve got good confidence in that. I would consider my trust in food to be fairly average. I think I was a lot more trusting in food before I started to learn a bit more about it. I don’t think I’m ever going to get caught up in hype over health foods, and superfoods, and that kind of thing. But at the same time, I do often get caught out with the amount of salts, or fats, or sugars, or even just something purporting to be healthy when it’s not actually that healthy.

Skip to 2 minutes and 6 seconds I like to buy food that fits with my current diet and lifestyle, and I will try, as I said, pick fresh food that looks edible and is at a good price. And unfortunately, those are the main reasons of why I choose food, not necessarily because of the food system itself. I don’t really think too much about where my food comes from, even though I’m really quite conscious about what I eat. And with all the negative things that you hear from other people and the internet, it’s kind of tiring to keep track of– keep hearing and figure it out if it is true or not.

Skip to 2 minutes and 44 seconds And it’s kind of hard to live in a state of paranoia, to know all of the negative things about your food, especially when you have a limited budget on your food. And to buy organic stuff or trustworthy food, it’s not an option most of the time. So I’m–kinda– I don’t know. I’m a little bit sceptical about my food, but I tend to not think too much about it.
