Skip to 0 minutes and 5 seconds Welcome to Football More Than A Game, as we explore this first week. Week one is about football history, myth, and power. And what we really want you to think about this week is how history helps us to understand the game of football, how history helps us to understand change, how history helps us to understand myths, and how history helps us to understand power in the game of football. The history of football is much more than just dates and figures and great goals and great golden errors.

Skip to 0 minutes and 54 seconds It helps you to compare and contrast. You may have talked with your family or with your pals in the local community about the greatest football team or the greatest goal. But when you start to compare these in 1920s or the 1930s or today, they are different. And history helps us to understand these great golden moments, helps us to understand how the game has changed, and helps us to understand myths about the game. So I hope you really enjoy week one as we use history to understand why football is more than a game.

Football history, myth and power

Welcome to week one of Football More than a Game as we consider why the history of football is important.

We’ll ask some important questions like, why is history important and how does it help us understand football in different parts of the world? How do we judge or how should we judge what makes a great football era, a golden football era or even a great goal or match. Finally, we’ll ask if history helps us to make this comparative judgement?

Join us in the next step to meet the team and go over the learning objectives for this first week.
