Types of security

A more comprehensive security incorporates security of distinct types that must each be considered.

Physical security

Physical security entails primary concerns about the external barriers, safeguards and protective measures designed to insulate people, enterprises, activities and property from hostile penetration of a secure perimeter.

This form of security will involve creating a secure space. This could be building a factory or business, or private enclaves and homes.

Personnel security

Personnel security involves the specific risk factors and conditional characteristics associated with individuals, people or employees. It involves trust, performance, reliability, competence, absence of criminal conduct and psycho-social stability in circumstances ranging from ordinary business situations to prolonged stress and severe crisis.

Information and internet security

Information and internet security involves several actors, including:

  • The originator
  • The message carrier
  • The hardware of the server and the information receiver

These all must be equally concerned about hacking and other equivalent external and internal cybernetic disruptions and exploitative activities designed to compromise ordinary internet message traffic.

Your task

Do you think these three types encompass all forms of security?
