Introduction to the week

This introductory course examines the primary issues and key challenges of building a truly resilient future society.

We will examine a number of different perspectives on resilience and examine how governance and future technologies may influence future outcomes.

This course covers the first two weeks of the wider Resilience, Security and Emerging Technologies program, which forms part of both the MSc Emergency Management and Resilience and the MSc Disaster Management and Resilience online degrees at Coventry University, delivered via FutureLearn.

This week you will:

  • Discuss the desired outcomes of building more resilient societies

  • Assess the correct balance between security and liberty in society

  • Analyse the effect of future technologies on society

  • Explore the relationship between perception and risk
