1. This table will help you build sentences. Start from the left, then pick the masculine or feminine option. Note how singulars and plurals work in the syntax. See examples further below.

2. Let’s have a look at short interactions with positive and negative answers.

Você é brasileiro? = Are you Brazilian?
  • Sim, eu sou. = Yes, I am.
  • Não, não sou. Eu sou português. = No, I am not. I am Portuguese.
Tu és chinesa? = Are you chinese?
  • Sim, eu sou.
  • Não, não sou. Eu sou americana. = No, I am not. I am American.
Eles são franceses? = Are they French?
  • Sim, eles são. = Yes, they are.
  • Não, não são. Eles são espanhóis. = No, they are not. They are Spanish.

3. In the comments, ask the same kind of question to any fellow learner who may reply. Example:

Learner 1: Você é espanhola?
Options for any learner’s reply: Não, não sou. Eu sou francesa. E você?

Sim, eu sou. E você?

Learner 1: Eu sou americano.
