Plural
The Frisian plural has different endings.
For example -en as in: wurden, freonen and dagen.
But also -s as in: âlders, oersetters.
The regular plural ending is –en: bist, bisten.
Another common plural ending is -s, which is used with a considerable number of words:
- Many words with foreign origin, like maraton, maratons.
- Words ending in unstressed -el, -em, -en, -er, -ert. For example dochter, dochters.
- Words ending in -y: hobby, hobbys.
- All diminutives: suske, suskes.
- Words ending in -a, -o or -u get an apostrophe with an –s, like foto, foto’s.
In the dialogues you heard the word bern. This word is irregular: the word has the same form for singular and plural.
