Encouraging girls to 'struggle'

In the previous step, we looked at the idea of the Learning Pit and considered how to build confidence in learners through letting them struggle and overcome challenges. In this step, we will look at another example of actively encouraging ‘struggle’.

It is often the temptation of a mentor or teacher to intervene when a child gets it wrong. Watch this video of a resilient 18 month old girl struggling with a puzzle. Reflect upon strategies you use to promote resilience and determination through encouraging girls to ‘struggle’ with a problem, and share your ideas in the comments.
