Welcome to Week 5
Welcome to the fifth week of the course. If you want to revisit material from previous weeks, you can navigate through them via the ‘to do’ list. Click ‘To do’ and then click on the appropriate week.
This week we will begin to explore the fourth of our five course objectives, to understand and apply the essentials of planning. We will look at the principles of planning and managing delivery of cataract and refractive error services, highlighting the components of situation analysis, how to set aims and objectives, and developing a strategy.
By the end of the week you should be able to:
- Consider ‘change’ in relation to the improvement of eye care services
- Define planning
- Critically appraise the components of the planning process and relate to a health setting
- Appraise the components of a situation analysis
- Relate the planning steps to their local setting
- Understanding the concept of an aim and SMART objectives in planning
- Appraise the linkage of activities with objectives and targets
- Understand the purpose of setting priorities, timelines and budgets in planning.
