Summary of Week 3

Summarises the importance access to health and rehabilitation for people with disabilities in the context of improving overall health and wellbeing

We have now reached the end of week 3. By now, you should have a clearer understanding of the importance of improving access to health care and rehabilitation services for people with disabilities.

We heard perspectives from people with disabilities and presented examples of ways in which we can improve their access to health care, featuring an eye health case study from Pakistan and the opportunity to use international sign. We then focused on improved access to rehabilitation for people with disabilities, including assistive devices and examples of innovative hearing, vision, and stroke mobile health technology.

We discussed rehabilitation in conflict settings and the importance of a sustainable systems level approach, concluding with an emphasis on the wider needs of people with disabilities through an introduction to the approach of community based inclusive development.

As with the last two weeks, we have pulled together common points and key themes from learner discussions, and a summary document in response to these is available under the ‘Downloads’ section at the bottom of this page.
